saguaro national park

design brief

for this project, our class was tasked with selecting a landmark and transforming its story, data, and key statistics into a clear poster. i chose saguaro national park, focusing on the iconic saguaro cactus and its uniquely slow, soulful life cycle.

moodboard

my moodboard explores a warm, desert inspired aesthetic with vintage postcards, sepia textures, hand drawn typography, and southwestern landscapes. the mix of rustic type, organic shapes, and nostalgic imagery set the tone for a bohemian, nature driven direction that guided my poster.

progress

my early exploration phase focused on defining the visual language for the project through sketches, icon studies, color palettes, and typography testing. i experimented with hand drawn desert illustrations, western inspired symbols, and simplified shapes to capture the character of saguaro national park. i also tested earthy, sun washed color palettes and bold display typefaces that referenced vintage desert style and signage.

outcome

my final saguaro national park poster brings together research, iconography, and visual storytelling into a uniformed infographic system. by removing the photographic background and focusing on simplified silhouettes, organic shapes, and clean data visualizations, i created a layout that clearly communicates the saguaro’s life cycle, geography, and significance within the sonoran desert.
